Description
Steel Neck Bushings
These self-centring, changeable neck bushings let reloaders precisely set the amount of tension on the bullet when using RCBS Gold Medal Match Series reloading dies. This reduces work hardening of the case neck brass, prolonging case life and increasing accuracy. However, getting these benefits requires the use of high-end brass with consistent neck thicknesses.
Proper neck bushing size can be determined in two ways. Measure the outside neck diameter of the loaded cartridge, subtract .002-inch to .003-inch. This allows approximately .001-inch of brass to spring back for correct neck tension. The other is to measure the neck wall thickness of the case, multiply by two, add the diameter of the bullet and subtract .001-inch. RCBS suggests that reloaders have neck bushings one to two sizes above and below their target diameter.

Choosing Your Bushing Size – As Easy as 1, 2, 3!
With a Loaded Cartridge:
- Step 1 – Measure the neck dimension with a calliper or micrometre.
Example: .295” - Step 2 – Subtract .002-.003” depending on desired neck tension.
- Example: .295” – .002” = .293” Bushing Size
- Step 3 – Add that size to your cart
- This method allows approximately .001” of spring-back for proper neck tension.

With Unloaded Brass:
- Step 1 – Measure neck thickness with a Vernier ball micrometre or calliper and multiply it by 2 for a product.
Example: .015” x 2 = .030”. - Step 2 – Add your bullet diameter to the previous product, then subtract .001” for the proper neck bushing size.
- Example: .264” + .030” = .294”, -.001” = .293” Bushing Size
- Step 3 – Add that size to your cart
- This method allows for .001” of spring-back for proper neck tension.
